Name: Dr. Artemis X. MacReady

Side: Hero

Age: Unknown

Family: Gregory and Linda MacReady (adoptive parents); Summer MacReady (adoptive sister); unknown biological parents

Powers: Energy manipulation

Personality: At first glance, Artemis seems to be an insane, nonsensical scientist. Only those who are close to him have cracked his shell and seen the real person underneath.

Due to his history, including the effects of his mother, the young and depressed Artemis found a way to hide his sadness: humor. His powers seem to be perfectly designed for his personality, as he can assume all sorts of wacky shapes and designs.

Artemis has a genius level intellect. He particularly has an aptitude for computers, technology, and physics. Often, he'll be seen in front of some sort of screen, be it a computer or a television. He's an avid fan of video games and movies. In fact, he loves all sorts of popular culture, so much that he has become a living encyclopedia on the subject, from films to television to comic books.

Beneath the joking facade, though, he is a rather mature and intelligent man - both facts that he like to hide. It's believed he does this due to his dysfunctional home life, as well as putting up a wall over his mature intellectual side as a form of protection against his anger and depression.

Often, when asked about his love life, the doctor simply responds, "Dating's not for me. I don't want to hurt any girl unlucky enough to be attracted to me."

Strengths: Artemis is amazingly brilliant, with an IQ of 165. He practices constantly with his power, thus making sure he is always growing and discovering new things about himself.

Weaknesses: Artemis is a text book on lower level mental health. He suffers from low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. He bottles up his anger and negative feelings until eventually he has a massive outburst, which one time resulted in the destruction of a partially constructed subdivision.

Weapons: A retractable metal bo staff

~Physical Description~

-Eyes: Brown

-Hair: Dark brown; shaggy

-Skin: Caucasian

-Body: Medium muscular

-Attire: Nerdy yet stylish. He can often be found wearing a simple t-shirt and a pair of cargo pants. Often a brown overcoat is worn over said t-shirt, or perhaps just an unbuttoned dress shirt on some of those warmer days.

History: The life of Artemis MacReady is, to say the least, extraordinary. We all know the story about Project...well, okay, maybe we don't.

Once, there was a holding facility designed for altered humans - that is, those who evolved. There, experiments were conducted on a variety of the so-called subjects. Every failsafe was put in to ensure nothing out of the ordinary happened...but something did, something science couldn't explain: two of the subjects fell in love. Consumating their relationship, the female became pregnant. Due to her unique physiology, the child was fully grown in nine days instead of nine months. In that time, she was hidden in the complex, out of fear that the scientists would kill the child or experiment upon him as the first child born to mutants. Upon being born, the child was smuggled out of the complex by a veteran of the staff, last name Bennet. A family in rural Indiana was chosen, due to the distance and remoteness. The Agency was aware of the child's existence, and it's often hinted that they let him get away.

Found on the doorsteps of the MacReadys, the newborn was named Artemis. Gregory MacReady had a good job as the manager of a phone company while his wife Linda was a simple housewife. This was due to her numerous mental problems, including minor schizophrenia and rage.

From an early age, Artemis showed an amazing intelligence. At the age of two, he taught himself to read via the local newspaper. By kindergarten, he was performing long division. As he began to grow, however, more and more unusual accidents around him happened, such as lizards appearing in his teacher's hair. It seemed to happen more as he reached puberty, perhaps due to Gregory getting cancer and retiring early from his job. Linda and Gregory both developed various addictions, including gambling, which resulted in Gregory's 401K dwindling quickly. In fact, Artemis became desensitized to numerous things during this time, such as watching his parents snort lines of coke. It's believed this contributed to the eccentricity he developed later in life.

By the time he reached his senior year in high school, Artemis was living in an apartment with his father. Linda had abandoned the family and Summer moved out. It was around this time that Artemis began to realize his power and began getting conscious control over it. On the night of his high school celebration, immediately after the ceremony, Artemis disappeared. There was only one indication that he wasn't murdered or kidnapped: upon returning to the apartment, Gregory found an extremely large pile of money on the kitchen table, with a handwritten note from Artemis - "Don't tell Mom."

Nobody knows exactly what happened after that. It's not known what Artemis is a doctor of or if he even has a doctorate. With his powers, he has become an explorer, an everyman of sorts. It's not uncommon for him to take on traveling companions that help him in his quests, most often which involve aiding evolved humans. The Agency has an entire casefile dedicated to "Doc", but it seems any time they're close to capturing him, he slips through their hands.

RP sample: The Press Room of the White House had been intricately prepared. Chairs had been placed properly on the cleaned and scrubbed blue carpet, with reporters now occupying the folding chairs that had been provided. A rumble of voices echoed through the white walled room in anticipation of one man's arrival, with a single podium set up on the stage in front of the reporters.

The rumble suddenly lowered as somebody finally stepped on stage. A foot, covered by a black dress shoe, first stepped out from behind the curtain to the left. Another foot followed. Legs clad in dark blue slacks moved out to follow the shoes. They trailed up to a torso, dressed in a buttoned-up white shirt, with a dark blue dress coat over it. Hands came up to adjust the red necktie that was worn around his neck.

The figure stopped walking as he came in front of the podium. He adjusted the eyeglasses that were worn in front of his brown eyes, and then lightly trailed his hand over the side of his brown hair. The rather attractive causasian then placed his hands on the podium and looked out over the crowd of newsmen.

"Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Doctor Kevin Sidney." Those words would probably wake up the entire Xavier Institute. The inhabitants of the mansion would more than likely be watching it, since nearly all of the channels had switched to the coverage of it. The older members of the mansion would probably be shocked to find that one of their own had ascended to Hank's position.

"As it has been rumored throughout the week, I am the new Secretary of Mutant Affairs. Dr. McCoy opted to resign from his position due to personal reasons. But that won't set up back. I promise you that the relationship between man- and mutantkind is at an all time high. Magneto is no longer a threat and we are making progress against the so-called 'Brotherhood'."

"Before any questions, I would like to take a moment to talk about the NovaTeX incident. This was a blatant attack by the Brotherhood. At the current count, 25 mutant lives were lost, along with 37 human lives, due to the machinations of the Brotherhood. The Cure that NovaTeX produces is a purely optional pharmaceutical application. Nobody is forced to take this cure. The Brotherhood will be caught for their crimes against not only mankind, but also mutantkind."

"With that said, I received word this morning from Director Denti of the FBI that the Most Wanted List has been updated." Lifting his hand, a screen lowered from the ceiling to stand at his side. A single image was shown on it, a photo of a young man. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is John Allerdyce, alias Pyro. According to reports and testimony, he is the new leader of the Brotherhood, and he also orchestrated the attack on NovaTeX. With that said, he is now #1 on the FBI's Most Wanted List. If anybody has seen this man, they are advised to call 911 IMMEDIATELY. Now, are there any questions?"

Instantly, a million hands went into the air. Kevin lifted his hand to point at one of them. "Yes, you?"

A female reporter stood up. To anybody in the room, they'd notice an uncanny resemblance to Angelina Jolie. Actually, it looked like it actually was Angelina Jolie. "Yes, Dr. Sidney, you do realize that this is just a dream you're having, right?" Even as she spoke, she began to undress, ripping open her white blouse to reveal a chest encased in a black lingerie bra.

Standing at the podium, Kevin adjusted his eyeglasses. "Um, what? Wait a minute. High government position, attention of the entire nation, hot chick I'd never have in a million years stripping in front of me..."

The albino mutant shot up in bed, his body stretching out like taffy as his head hit the ceiling. "OW, GOD--" His form lowered, taking on some semblance of a humanoid shape as he scratched his head. That was the third dream like that in the past week. His bare feet - with no toes, mind you - swung out to land on the hard wood floor of his dormitory. He stretched his arms out as his mouth opened wide, a yawn escaping from the back of his throat. Licking his lips, he scratched his bare chest and stood up, moving towards the door.

Hearing the sounds of sentient life outside in the hallway, he opted to take a more social form. His skin was injected with a peach hue while brown irises popped up in his eye, dotted with black pupils. Brown strands of hair were pushed out of his scalp, taking on a short length. A black t-shirt appeared on his bare torso, even as a pair of blue jean cargo pants made themselves known on his legs. In a split-second, where a bald naked albino man once stood, now there was a normal looking teenager.

With a smile, he grabbed the doorknob, turned it, and yanked open the door.
